Avive Clinic Melbourne is now open in Alphington, expanding access to specialist private mental health care for people across Melbourne’s northern suburbs and the wider Victorian community.
Located at 9–11 Old Heidelberg Road, the new 32-bed private mental health hospital provides voluntary inpatient care, private psychiatrist consulting and outpatient day programs. Care is delivered by multidisciplinary teams of psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health nurses and allied health professionals.
The hospital supports adults experiencing depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma-related conditions and other complex mental health presentations.
Its opening responds to growing demand for private mental health services across Melbourne’s northern suburbs – one of the city’s fastest-growing catchments, with approximately one million residents and a further 500,000 residents forecast by 2046.

Avive Clinic Melbourne was officially opened on 13 August 2026, ahead of welcoming its first patients on 17 August.
The opening brought together members of the Avive team, clinicians, project partners and community representatives to mark the arrival of a new specialist private mental health hospital for Melbourne’s north.
The event included a Welcome to Country, an official ribbon cutting and tours of the new hospital. Guests heard from Avive Health Co-Founders Greg Procter and Mark Sweeney, Australian Unity representatives and a speaker who shared their lived experience of mental ill health and recovery.

The 1,725-square-metre property is owned by the Australian Unity Healthcare Property Trust and leased to Avive under a long-term agreement. Originally built as an aged care facility, the property underwent a comprehensive refurbishment and reconfiguration to create a contemporary specialist mental health hospital.

Avive Clinic Melbourne has opened with 32 private inpatient beds in its first stage. The hospital has been designed to expand gradually as community demand grows, with capacity for an additional 28 beds bringing the hospital’s future capacity to 60 beds.

Avive Clinic Melbourne is Avive Health’s third private mental health hospital and its second in Victoria, following the opening of the 60-bed Avive Clinic Mornington Peninsula in Mount Eliza.
Together, the two Victorian hospitals provide 92 private mental health beds and strengthen access to specialist, multidisciplinary mental health care across the state.
