Our stress, trauma and resilience (STAR) program is Avive’s signature program that promotes psychological strength following trauma. STAR is an advanced processing program, suitable if you are ready to undergo deep work to unpack and process trauma. It provides an opportunity to challenge yourself, so that you can get to the root cause of your mental health issues - with flexible pathways and access to clinical teams and psychiatrists via our immersive inpatient or supportive day program.
Is our program right for you?
Our STAR program can help if you:
- live with the impact of early life trauma and its adverse effect on mental health, relationships and well-being

- want to advance to more intensive treatment and emotional processing work beyond skills-based therapy
- are capable of exploring strong and often painful emotions and experiences to build psychological strength and resilience
- are open to intense group work and discussion, or
- are committed to personal growth to lead a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Inpatient program
Our 3-week immersive STAR program takes a trauma-informed, evidence-based, whole brain approach to help you redefine what’s possible in your life after trauma, so that you can move forward.
STAR helps you to work through difficult emotions and develop psychological skills to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. It is designed to help you cope positively with stress and traumatic experiences, and is proven to increase overall health and resilience.
This strengths-based program can help you to overcome complex emotional challenges. It helps to address repetitive unhelpful, negative patterns of thinking or acting, when you feel stuck in beliefs that limit your growth.
Program content includes:
- creating balance and prioritising self-care
- identifying signs and symptoms of stress, and managing anxiety
- challenging and changing unhelpful thinking
- disarming shame and fostering self-compassion
- setting goals and action planning
- identifying and containing strong emotions
- understanding guilt and taking responsibility
- letting go of resentment and moving through grief to forgiveness, and
- setting healthy boundaries, communicating assertively and empathising with others.
Day program
Our 8-week day program explores the same content as our inpatient program and can help you to transition from an inpatient stay. Alternatively, if you do not need an inpatient admission, you can access STAR as a standalone day program.
How to get started
If you are new to Avive and our programs, ask your psychiatrist or GP for a referral. We will also arrange any necessary mental health assessments before you begin.
If you are completing inpatient treatment at an Avive facility and transitioning to our day program, your psychiatrist will refer you.
Costs
Our facilities are licensed private hospitals, and we have contracts with most health funds. Generally, most, if not all, costs are covered by your fund. To confirm the costs specific to you, we can check your health fund coverage and let you know if any out-of-pocket costs or gap fees are payable. We’re here to help you navigate the details.
If you are self-insured and considering an inpatient program or day program, contact us and we can provide a detailed cost breakdown for both options.
Simply complete the enquiry or referral form below and we will contact you directly to answer any further questions you have or guide you through your admission.
